Astro Visit (12-12-2006)

As it is said “One photos can be better that thousand words”.
This following photos describe it’s selves . Please add your comment after seeing them.

Astro & Measat 1,2 & 3 Satellites

Broadcasting Control Rooms Locally and Regionally

X-Fresh Radio DJ

This guys is sooo cooooool . He thinks and speaks soo fast. He is so confidant of himself. Never the less, he do also have a cool accent. We did really enjoyed being ON AIR with him, observing how he optimize, mix and finalize boring audience’s phone calls in a very short time – few minutes – and then broadcast them later on in a really cool way.

Although the visit was a bit short and we didn’t have that plenty of time to fullfil our curiosity and find some answers for our inquiries, I still consider this trip as one of the best trips that we have ever had. Thus , I would really recommend it to be held as well for the coming batch to Petrosains- UTP- Sci.Comm.Prog.

PUSAT SAINS NEGARA (12-12-2006)

On Tuesday 12th Dec 2006, we woke up very early not as usual, in order to assemble in front of KLCC before 8:00am. On that day we were supposed to go for a field trip to PUSAT SAINS NEGARA – Malaysia & Astro. On the other hand, The lunching of Measat 3 have been done while we where in our way to PUSAT SAINS NEGARA that’s why we couldn’t catch it out.

PUSAT SAINS NEGARA is a national museum which is located some kilometers far out Kuala Lumpur. It is actually the place in which natural creatures, herbals, reptiles, insects, birds and science can all be found under one roof. On the other hand, it is considered to be an organization which is almost the same like Petrosains , but it’s more general than Petrosains which is have a different scoop that relates science to oil and gas industries.

In my point of view, although PUSAT SAINS NEGARA is huge and have a variety of things, I still find Petrosains to be more interesting , because it’s focus into science more than PUSAT SAINS NEGARA do . For the 3 hours that we have been their , I have learnt a lot of things. Thus , I would like to share with you some of the things that caught my curiosity.

Let’s check them out together ……….

Bugs and Butterflies ( Coooool haaaaaaa )

What is a reptile?

There are about 5200 different species of reptile alive today. The majority of these are snakes and lizards.

Reptiles:
· Are cold-blooded
· Breathe air using lungs
· Have dry, scaly skins

There are four main group. These are turtles and tortoises , the lizards, the snakes and the crocodiles and their relatives.
Example: Iguana and forest gecko

Forest Gecko

Habitat : little-disturbed forested areas.

Location : South Thailand, Malaysia & Singapore

This large gecko is similar to the Tokay but it has green eyes nocturnal species.
Food consists mainly of large insect.

The Stick Insects

Some stick insects are slender, brown or green, just like the twigs and leaf stalks they sit on. Other species are shorter and fatter, with spines and other projection. These often look like curled dead leaves. They are vegetarian.

Eish …….. I still can’t believe that I rolled that snake around my nick !!!!!!!!!

Arch of AQUARIUM Tunnel

This semi circle arch is a sample of the material used to build the aquarium tunnel.

Features of the tunnel are as follows:
Length = 8.0 m
Width = 5.0 m
Height = 2.5 m
Material = Clear Perspex (Acrylic)
Thickness of Perspex = 8.0 cm

Peacock
Common Name : Blue Peafowl/ Peacock
Scientific name : Pavo Cristatus
Family : Phasianidae
Distribution : India & Sri lanka
Habitat : Open forest, grassland with scattered trees

As a wild bird, it lives in deciduous tropical forests and feed in open places such as clearing or cultivated fields. It’s diet consists of seeds, fruit and other parts of plants, as well as small animals ranging from insects to mice. Peacocks are agile enough to fly up into the higher branches of trees to roost. It’s nest is a shallow hollow made by the birds, bare or lined with sticks, leaves and grass, and often concealed in thorny undergrowth.
Scientists test their hypothesis by doing an experiment. A good experiment includes:

  • Subject – the thing being studied under set conditions

  • Control – one subject kept in an unchanged state

  • Variable – the one factor that could be altered each time the experiment is done

  • Keeping good records of what is observed

  • Checking results to see if they support the hypothesis

Wise sayings which graphed my attention:

“To think creatively, we must be able to look a fresh at what we normally take for granted. “_ George Knelled

“The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.” _ Albert Einstein

“I may not know yet how to make a light bulb, but I know 10,000 ways that won’t work.” _ Thomas Edison

Cultural Performance (11-12-2006)

'Some Times Photos Talk better that Words' , Smile in each
of all those faces reflects how Happy and Satisfied they are . :-)

Since two days before the performance, when have been asked to prepare for the performance, we started to optimize our ideas and do brainstorming in order to create our own ideas and utilize our own technique in the performance.

To be honest, we worked hard to prepare for this show and we almost spent the whole two days preparing and practicing. Although the performance did start a little bit late, it was smooth, well organized and all the audiences enjoyed it. How can’t it be organized while I was the one how ran every thing (The Media). :-)

The following is the performances for each country:

Malaysia ------------>>>>> Fashion Show + Dance
Thailand------------>>>>> Thai Dance
Vietnam ----------->>>>> Vietnam Dance
Iran --------------->>>>> Drama – Iran New Year
Turkmenistan ----->>>>> Drama – The Wise Man
Yemen ------------>>>>> Yemen ‘Arabian Happy Land’
Sudan ----------->>>>> Offshore platform
Egypt ----------->>>>> Mummy’s Show

Sky-bridge Visit (7-12-2006)

Me and my friends

6th Petrosains Batch

On the same day, and directly after the Lunch Break, we went to the 41st floor of the Twin-Towers sky-bridge. Although this visit was too short –around 10 min- , we managed to enjoyed our time there watching Kuala Lumpur from a height that we have never been to in KL before.
Thus, we spent our whole time there capturing individual and group photos.
As an over all, I can summarize the whole trip into two words :

‘Incredible’ & ‘Astonishing’.

Inquiry Workshop (7-12-2006)

On the 7th of December, we have started the day by going throw 3 stations A, B & C
In those stations, we were required to build up spinning tops according to certain criteria's and in different approaches

Station A: Guidelines method
Station B: Challenges method
Station C: Exploration method

Those are the facts that have been figured out form the workshop:
• All approaches to hands-on science are not alike – each approach has distinguishable characteristics.
• Different approached to hands-on science support different objects for learning.
• Effective science teaching requires using a variety of approaches and matching the appropriate approach with specific content, process, and attitudinal learning goals.

MKTG & EXHB Talk (6-12-2006)

On Wednesday 6th of December, and before AQUARIA Tour, two talks have been held for us at The Zone Lavender Seminar room.

The first talk -The Marketing talk- was focusing on the following:

- Basic role of Petrosains Marketing Department.
- Special Projects Section
- PR & Communication Section
- Gift Shop

The Second talk, Exhibition Training Series, highlighted the following topics:
- Traits of a successful exhibit.
- Poor exhibits (Textbook on the wall).
- The 5 domains of learning.
- The 3 powers (Attract/ Hold/ communicate).

Both of those Talks were a bit important because they provided some basic information which –I guess- they will be very helpful in the coming days.

When I hear, I forget
When I see, I remember
When I do, I understand
